Tangerang to have Asia's largest dump site

Tangerang regency will soon have the largest waste management site in Asia as the local administration is expanding the 12-hectare Jatiwaringin dump in Mauk to 100 hectares.

Tangerang Sanitation, Parks and Cemetery Agency head Agus Suryana said Monday that the expansion was being carried out in line with the administration's plan to build an integrated waste management system in cooperation with Japanese investor PT Arax.
"The investment reaches Rp 1.6 trillion [US$164 million]," he said as quoted by tempo.co, adding that one of the requirements of the Japanese firm was that at least 2,500 tons of waste be processed at the site every day.
He said the site would also process waste from Jakarta, South Tangerang and Tangerang city and would produce electricity, biogas and compost. (The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Jakarta | Tue, April 09 2013, 6:35 AM)
