Suharto, Gus Dur nominated as heroes again

The government has begun considering the nomination of several national figures, including former presidents Soeharto and Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid, as national heroes.
The government had received at least nine names, including the two former presidents, between 2011 and 2012 to be declared national heroes but rejected them due to protests from Soeharto's critics.
"We will begin to look through the proposed names, including former presidents Soeharto and Gus Dur," Andi Hanindito, who heads the department of heroic pioneer and social solidarity at the Ministry of Social Affairs, said on Tuesday. Andi added that the ministry was aiming to complete the review before National Heroes Day later in November when the heroes would be inaugurated.
