The Public Works Ministry has given the go-ahead for a Rp 18 billion (US$1.85 million) construction project to build a road leading to Lakey Beach coastal resort in Lakey village, Hu’u subdistrict, Dompu regency, West Nusa Tenggara.
The beach has gained popularity from surfers around the world for its challenging waves.
“The Rp 18 billion, to build a 3-kilometer road from Hu’u village to Lakey Beach, is taken from this year’s national budget,” Suardi Leo of the West Nusa Tenggara National Road office told The Jakarta Post in Mataram on Sunday.
Leo said that if everything went as planned, the road would have two lanes and measure 6-meters wide and stretch for 3-kilometers.
“It will make access easier for tourists who want to visit Lakey Beach,” he said.
According to Leo, construction would commence once Dompu regency completed all land acquisition, which is estimated to be in early May.
