Fiscal health, national economy, as well as fairness for the poor are some aspects, which become the President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s (SBY) considerations in determining the options for oil fuel subsidy control. This was stated by the Special Staff of the President of Economy and Development Firmanzah in Jakarta.
President, Firmanzah continued, has conveyed and instructed Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs to immediately formulate the policy on oil fuel subsidy control to be taken by the government. These policy options are the inputs from Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Pertamina, National Economic Committee (KEN), and Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs.
“President wishes to have single comprehensive policy package to safeguard fiscal and economy with minimum social costs,” he said.
Firmanzah delivered, the option to be taken by the President should not only promote the fairness aspect and safeguard the State finance, but also not increase the gap of the people’s income. “So, subsidy is for the poor, subsidy for the rich will be removed,” Firmanzah affirmed.
Regarding the decision for the oil fuel subsidy control, according Firmanzah, President SBY will decide it as soon as he obtains the details from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs. “I think it (option for subsidized oil fuel control) will be decided this year because if we let this drag on, it will jeopardize our fiscal, and European countries have problems due to a quite big budget deficit,” he stated.
