Chairman of the Indonesian
Workers Union (KSPI) Said Iqbal said 80,000 workers would rally in front of
the state palace to observe International Workers Day — May Day — on Wednesday.
“These 80,000 workers will be at the front of the
state palace until 6 p.m.,” Iqbal said at a press conference at the
Jakarta Police Office on Tuesday Kompas.com
reported.
He said besides the state palace, workers would
also rally in the front of ministry buildings including the Manpower and
Transmigration Ministry, Health Ministry, Finance Ministry, State-owned
Enterprises Ministry, the Coordinating People Welfare Ministry and the
Coordinating Economic Ministry.
According to Iqbal, more than 600, 000 workers
around the country planned to attend mass rallies to observe May Day, 150,000
would descend on Jakarta. (dic)
